Qingtongxia City, the “Pearl on the Fortress”, is located in the middle of the Ningxia Plain on the upper reaches of the Yellow River. Niushou and Xiakou mountains face each other, and the Yellow River passes through the gorge. The mountains and waters reflect each other like open bronze mirrors, hence the name “Qingtong Gorge”. Qingtongxia has a long history. It has been administratively established since the Qin Dynasty and belongs to Fuping County, Beidi County. Ningshuo County was established in the second year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. The city now has jurisdiction over 6 towns, 8 townships, 3 agricultural and forestry farms, a total of 104 administrative villages, 24 neighborhood committees, 16 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Manchu and Mongolian, with a total population of 240,000. The altitude is 1100-1700 meters, with three major landforms: mountains, hills and plains.
Qingtongxia City has an advantageous geographical location, unique natural conditions, and abundant land, water conservancy, electricity, minerals, tourism and other resources. Tourism resources such as natural landscapes, engineering landscapes and cultural landscapes are unique and famous far and wide. The main attractions include: the 108 Lama Pagodas of the Yuan Dynasty, which are key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council; Dongfu and Guangwukou Zimenggou rock paintings are key cultural relics protection units in Ningxia; as well as the Niushou Mountain Temple Group, the ancient canal head, Qingtongxia Water Conservancy Project and many other scenic spots attract thousands of tourists to watch and linger.
